Manchester United have released their 2022-23 kit and have used Cristiano Ronaldo as one of their poster boys despite uncertainty over his future at the club. The 37-year-old striker was seen wearing United’s new kit with a red and white collar as the club unveiled their new kit to the Old Trafford faithful. However, a special advert featuring Ronaldo is being held back until the club get clarity on his future after the Portugal international told the Red Devils he wanted to leave this summer. Next season’s shirt features United’s traditional red and white colors and references the strip worn by the Red Devils in the 1990s. The new white collar, corner badge and vertical seam give the shirt a retro feel. While the club’s sponsors and partners will be visible on both the sleeve and front of the club’s home, away and third-party kits. Ronaldo was due to return for pre-season training on Monday but was given time off by United over a family matter. The player has so far missed four days of training and turned down the chance to join United on their pre-season tour of Bangkok on Friday. New Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is interested in signing Ronaldo this summer but will have to battle it out with Napoli to secure his services if United allow him to leave. Chelsea and Napoli are said to be two of the European giants interested in signing Ronaldo this summer. However, it will be difficult for any club to match his £500,000-a-week wages. Furthermore, Erik ten Hag will be reluctant to let the 37-year-old striker go as he looks to build the squad ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign. The Dutchman finally secured his first signing as manager as Tyrell Malacia arrived in a £14/7m deal from Feyenoord earlier this week. Ten Hag are also in the process of negotiating a deal for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. However, progress seems to be lagging.
