Statistics Canada today released results from the 2021 national census showing that 23 per cent of cohabiting couples are unmarried. The organization says that over the past 40 years, the number of cohabiting couples has increased by 447 percent. During the same period, the number of married couples increased by only 26 percent. Statistics Canada says this country now has the highest proportion of community unions in the G7. He says that’s partly due to the union’s popularity in Quebec, where 43 percent of Canada’s common-law couples live.
