On April 29, 2022, at about 7:00 pm, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Sault Ste Marie Squad responded to a complaint about the possible release of a disabled motorcyclist who left a store in Heyden and headed south on Freeway 17 towards Sault Ste Marie. Shortly after 7:30 a.m., members of the Bacevan First Nation Police Service located the motorcycle parked at a local restaurant in the Bacevan First Nation community. The driver of the vehicle tried to escape and was arrested. Police searched the driver’s backpack and found a machete, a small amount of suspected crystalline methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. As a result, Muhammet Kamacihan, 30, of Searchmont was charged with:
Flight by the Peacemaker, contrary to Article 320.17 of the Penal Code (CC) Operation in Disability – Alcohol and Drugs, in contrast to Article 320.14 (1) (a) of the CC Resist Peace Officer, contrary to Article 129 (a) of the CC Possession of a Dangerous Weapon, in contrast to article 88 of the CCC Possession of Substance-Methamphetamine of Annex I, in violation of Article 4 (1) of the Law on Controlled Drugs and Substances Suspended driving, contrary to section 53 (1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA) Driving a motor vehicle – Improper license, contrary to Article 32 (1) of the HTA Use the license plate that is not authorized for a vehicle, as opposed to section 12 (1) (d) of the HTA Failure to deliver the insurance card, contrary to Article 3 (1) of the law on compulsory car insurance.
Defendant is scheduled to appear in Ontario Court in Sault Ste Marie on June 13, 2022
