Shortly after 9:45 Thursday morning, a passerby discovered the body of a man in a vacant lot in an industrial area near Norland Avenue and Laurel Street. He was identified Saturday as 31-year-old Christopher Irwin. His death was targeted, police said. “We are releasing Mr. Irwin’s name in hopes that witnesses will come forward that can help us create a timeline of Mr. Irwin’s whereabouts in the time leading up to his death,” said IHIT Sgt. Timothy Pierotti in a statement. He also urged people who knew Irwin to contact police. Earlier Thursday, New Westminster police responded to a vehicle fire in the 400 block of Fader Street around 4:30 a.m. IHIT believes the vehicle is connected to Irwin’s homicide and has taken over the case. Police are looking for witnesses or people traveling in the 3300-block of Norland Avenue between 3:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. or in the area of Fader Street and Braid Street, near the scene of the vehicle fire, between 3:30 and 5 a.m. Anyone with dash cam video or information about the two incidents is asked to contact IHIT at 1-877-551-4448 (IHIT).
