Most of Britain’s fuel is not imported from Russia, but a lack of domestic refining capacity means Russian fuel imports make up a fifth of the diesel used in the UK each year. This has raised concerns that after the ban the Kremlin could benefit from the UK’s continued use of Russian fuel imported from third countries. The UK has imported seven million barrels of diesel worth £800m from Russia since the invasion of Ukraine, according to figures from Refinitiv. British ports received five shipments in April, four in May and one last month. The government promised
