The new statement, shared with Eurogamer this afternoon, appears to contradict the message visible today on the game’s store page. This will now change. Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD. Here’s Ubisoft’s full statement: “As stated in our support article, only DLC and online features will be affected by the upcoming decommissioning. Current owners of these games will still be able to access, play, or re-download them. Our teams are working with our partners to update this information all storefronts and also evaluate all available options for players who will be affected when the online services of these games are decommissioned on September 1, 2022. “It’s always been our intention to do everything in our power to allow these legacy titles to remain available in the best possible conditions for players, and that’s what we’re working towards.” ORIGINAL STORY 10.15am UK: Ubisoft has warned that Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD “will not be accessible” from September 1 onwards. The game is no longer available for purchase “at the publisher’s request,” says a warning notice on the game’s Steam page. Silent Hunter 5, an underwater combat sim from Ubisoft, also has the same warning messages. And, curiously, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands has a similar notice, albeit only for the game’s Deluxe Edition and DLC. Ubisoft’s move to make this selection of games and DLC inaccessible follows the previous announcement that Ubisoft was shutting down a number of online services for older games. This announcement did not go down well with fans – and indeed with a Ubisoft development studio. Anno 2070 maker Ubisoft Mainz has since said it was working to patch its game so it could be played after its servers were shut down. Another Ubisoft game set to become unavailable after September 1st is Space Junkies, which is one of the titles that will be shutting down its online servers. As an online-only game, however, this at least makes some sense. But what about Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD? Eurogamer has reached out to Ubisoft for comment and received the following statement regarding the publisher’s earlier server shutdown announcement. “We are not making the decision to retire services for older Ubisoft games, and our teams are currently evaluating all available options for players who will be affected when online services for these games are decommissioned on September 1, 2022,” a Ubisoft spokesperson told us. . “We are also working with our partners to update this information across all storefronts, so players will be fully informed of the removal of online services at the point of purchase as well as through our support article where we shared the news.” We hope to hear more about the Liberation HD specifically and will update when we do.
