Leading the story: Protesters had gathered outside the restaurant and called for justice for Morton’s manager, who joined the Supreme Court majority in overturning Roe v. Wade, according to Politico.
“The Honorable Supreme Court Justice Kavanaugh and all of our other restaurant patrons were unreasonably harassed by unruly protesters while dining at Morton’s,” the restaurant said in a statement to Politico. “Politics, regardless of your side or views, should not encroach on freedom in the game of the right to gather and eat dinner. What he says: “Poor guy. He left before his soufflé because he decided that half the country should risk death if he has an ectopic pregnancy with the wrong state boundaries. It’s so unfair to him,” Ocasio-Cortez said.
“The least they could do is let him eat cake.” In another tweet, responding to Fox News’ Peter Doocy who asked White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre if judges “don’t have a right to privacy” after the incident, Ocasio-Cortez said:[p]Pretty sure they flipped this just 2 weeks ago Doocy.”
What’s Also Happening: Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) also responded to the incident, saying: “[p]Political protest is okay when it involves storming government buildings and beating up the police.”
“But it crosses the line when you’re standing outside a steakhouse,” he added.
The big picture: After the Supreme Court ruling, several states have banned or severely restricted abortion.
