Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease in which mucus builds up in the lungs, digestive system, and other parts of the body. Symptoms of cystic fibrosis can include a persistent cough, shortness of breath, frequent chest infections and weight loss. “As an adult with severe progression of CF, I have experienced the life-changing results of Tricafta and am so grateful that children with this devastating, progressive disease may not have to bear the same burden that we as adults. They now have a chance at a much healthier and longer life because of your actions. As a parent I feel their relief as all you want for your children is for them to reach their full potential. The access you provided today makes this a reality for parents of children with CF for the first time,” said Amanda Bartels, CF patient and CF Canada’s lead volunteer advocate for Alberta.. The government also provides cover for the cystic fibrosis drugs Kalydeco and Orkambi for those who meet the eligibility criteria. (Government of Alberta)
