The crash happened on Highway 567 near Range Road 284 in Rocky View County just before 5pm Sunday. Mounties believe the driver of an eastbound hatchback was attempting to pass an eastbound pickup truck pulling a trailer when it struck the rear of the trailer. “The impact caused the hatchback to leave the roadway and collide with a utility pole in the north ditch,” a release said Monday. “The power pole caught fire and spread to the hatchback, which was completely engulfed.” RCMP say a youth in one of the back seats of the hatchback died at the scene. “Airdrie RCMP send their condolences to all those affected by this tragedy,” it said in a statement.
