Shoppers were herded to the exit at the Tesco superstore in Rutherglen just after 1.30pm. after emergency crews rushed to the scene. A 25-year-old woman was taken to Glasgow’s Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment, where her condition is unknown. Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man was arrested for the incident. Eyewitnesses told how “multiple” police officers and at least one ambulance crew were seen entering the store as those browsing the aisles were encouraged to leave after staff activated the fire alarm. Tesco has been contacted for comment. A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Officers were called to a serious assault at a building in Dalmarnock Road, Rutherglen at around 1.30pm. on Saturday July 9. “A 25-year-old woman was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital. “A 34-year-old man was arrested for having an affair”.
